Default R/E or E/R Pros and Cons

I was thinking of making a R/E or E/R next but cannot decide which one would be better.
What are some of the pros and cons of each build.

From what i've read its usually better to have ele as primary so that you can put points in energy storage wich increases your max energy pool.

well it all depends on what you want to do with your character. If your character will be using lots of high energy spells, i would say choose Elementalist as primary for energy storage. If you have a lot of preparations, bow attacks, skills, and the like, get Ranger as primary for Expertise, which lowers the energy cost of those kinds of skills (NOT spells).

As night hawk said, you need to know what role you want to play.

For spells/spike damage, the clear choice is ele. Energy storage+4 regen will help you immensely here.

On the other hand, if you want a long range steady damage dealer, go ranger primary and use a conjure and maybe something like ice spikes as a snare.

I personally don't find rangers as a second prof that useful because pets aren't very good without several BM skills to back them up (and even then iffy) and Ranger damage sucks horribly without expertise skill-spammable ability.

These are not combinations that are going to play well in a straight up combo - the two have little general synergy, and you're going to have to lean towards one or the other if you want to be effective. To that end, if you want to use a bow go Ranger/Elementalist and just grab a skill or two to support Ranger - if you want to nuke, go Ele/Ranger for nukes and Quickness or something. Nukes plus bow is simply redundancy that does not make for a strong character.

Peace,
-CxE
